New MINI press release
Discussion
reassuringly (for resids!) similar!
the clearly higher headlight mountings will be a lot better for visibility but look as though they *might* have had a slight negative effect on the looks.
they always said the main change was going to be to the newfangled engine and i guess that's where the interest will lie.

Does anyone else have issues with the timing of this press release?
They go to great lengths to sort out a big stand at the Motorshow, then while thats on they "launch" a brand new version of the MINI elsewhere and will give it the first public airing at Paris or somewhere.
Dont us Brits deserve to see it first?

that centre console looks a bit overstyled and gimmicky? hopefully the final product will be better. they said they were going to improve the interior..!
I think that is the picture from Autocar or Auto Express.
If it is the dash is still covered with foam to disguise the final design. That is why the headlamps are still surrounded by tape. They are just trying to keep some mystery there until they release the actual final design.
I completley agree about the Mini stand at the m'show. All the Brits (where i believe the Mini was launched by BMW in Birmingham) was a wamred up version of the concept traveller that they have whored around the world, eventually bringing it to the UK when everyone else had seen it.
They had such a large area, would have released the car and made sure the motorshow had as much attraction as possible.
Will anyone else miss the supercharger whine? I know the turbo engine is A LOT more fuel economic whilst still maintaining power and lag will be low for a turbo but I love that whine when you boot it above 3700 rpm. Autocar has hte chief powertrain engineer saying it was annoying.
I thought using a supercharger gave it more character. Loads of cheap turbo cars out there, but very few cars are supercharged (Mercs and big Jags spring to mind but nothing else does).
It was almost like being in an exclusive club. Now, just another turbocharged car.

i agree. i knew the new one would be out in a 18mths/couple of years after buying mine but i wanted the supercharged one! i want to keepmine for quite while so deprceiation less of an issue. it's good if the new one is more economical - but i wonder how much... if it's got valvetronic then i guess it may well be.

Maybe, but it drank the juice like no tomorrow, making it 200 euro/month more expensive as a full operational lease vs. the Cooper (and that was before the 'fuel hog punishment tax'which is sadly besed on consumption vs. vehicle size here), effectively making it an unviable proposition as a company car (and then I haven't started about its pitiful range, given it has the same 50l fuel tank as the cooking models!).

Granted, it is too thirsty
I only bought mine about 4 months ago as a used car but have started a new job which I have lease car options with. Should I sell the MCS and get a A3 sportback 2.0 for £150 a month less.
Sadly, I think the MCS has to go. Much more fun obviously but financially the (granted very nice) Audi is a winner.
Full pictures now revealed.
Full press release at www.globalautoindex.com/news.plt?no=1531#. Forget the marketing babble about all new body panels changed, this is a mid-life tweak to accomodate the new engines and reduce the production costs a little.
Hope that new ICE has an iPod dock.
i still don't like all that fussy stuff down at the bottom of the centre console and neither do i like the rear bumper. i think the front lights look very slightly too high but at least they should illuminate the road properly now! other than that i think it's a good facelift. i like the retroness of mine but i think this is a very good way of making it look more modern without making our cars look 'dated'!
