Cooper S Works GP

Anybody here got their name down for one? I must say, they look superb in the press pictures. I wonder if they'll have runflats?!
Not too sure about the red mirrors of the bulges of red plastic in the back, and £24k might be a bit too steep, but I do love them.
What's the general opinion on here?

Umm i cant see what the hype is if you ask me......
they havent put the power up to a godly level, neither have they tried to loose that weight.... so not really that great a track tool, plus the bodykit is a bit hit and miss but that personal pref....
For posers and the fashionite its the new toy to add to their collection but it will depriciate like a bomb when the new mini S comes in so not worth the investment
Although i would have one over my S anyday, just cant see where MINI have got that 25 k price from..... i can see it being another Ford Racing Puma, great car but look at the prices now 5 years on around the 7-9 k mark!! (from 23k i believe)

We've sold 5 from our dealership, Leeds millionaire bought two for him and his mate to go on track days.
Does each dealer have an allocation of cars?
Yes they were all gettin 4 originally but we sold 5
The demand has been extremely high for them, so much so that MINI UK has aquired another 15 from the Japanese and American allocations to sell here! Keep your eye out for them.

Forgive my Ignorance but can anyone explain what is so special about this Vehicle ?
Is it just a marketing excercise or BMW's idea of competing with JCW ?
The car looks good but surely you can get a more 'Raw' Mini by going to JCW direct or GTT etc and you still have 4 seats ?

The MINI Works GP IS John Cooper Works
Its 50kgs lighter than a normal MINI and has 218bhp as apposed to the 210bhp from the normal JCW kit. But there are very limited numbers 444 worldwide.
The price is steep to say the least, I'll agree and I can't see the point of cruise control in it either tbh but heyho I didn't think of it.

But we have a higher Bhp at 235 bhp with JCW and we keep 4 seats.
Am I missing something here ?
JCW offer an improved Bhp and acceleration even if you buy a 2003 model(for example) mini sport and go for a 225 kit.
Get the the New Lightened Flywheel and Slip Diff and you are sorted.
There are other companies who can offer better performance over JCW for less money - i think its GTT
At this point the JCW Car seems to be a more expensive option perhaps?

Only going from our press releases. I can cut and paste the press release from our infonet onto here if people wish.
I've been on with JCW about the newer, more powerful kits. Basically they aren't approved by MINI UK hence why they aren't available through dealers. You would have to go to John Cooper Works for it doing.

Jimi you are quite right.
JCW do sell higher bhp outputs.
Our Mini is an example of that as it pushes 235bhp from JCW courtesy of the Chief Engineer. It is also %100 reliable (Will Probably break down now I've said that !)
They can BluePrint the Engine, add the New Lightened Flywheel, Add the Motorsport Download to name a few examples of what JCW do.
I think the 24 hour car pushes 275 bhp.
We were told the cost to have the Engine push 275bhp would be around £16,000.

jcw prices are a common extorsion thow GTT will push a S to 280 bhp for arround 6k imo ints not worth paying that price for the works name

yes not matter how much i bang on on here or mini2mini about rip etc john cooper grages closing is a blow for the new mini soo much so that it will take a long time for the signifcance of it all to set in it trully marks the end of the cooper car compamy and to me the spirtual home of the mini cooper along with it, the love and the heratige behind that name i fear will be lost in the trendy uber dealerships of bmw and mini to some of us the cooper name means a lot it what makes me smile every time i look at the back of my car

Woooh..do excuse me, J C Garages closing? This is very sad, being a newbe I had no idea, can somebody tell me where to find more info/blog?
Oh and yes to keep on thread, I have put my deposit down for a GP ... at 48 with two young kids and a wife who is under the impression that a Mini has four seats .. I will need a good divorce lawyer and medical care after delivery too!
It was either a GP or the obligatory hearing aid beige Skoda with taupe velor seats (possibly more suitable to my age group) but the GP has a nicer steering wheel!
Seriously, whilst agreeing with most of the above comments (good & bad), I think the point of ownership for me is that this is the last of the first! The fact that you can add gallons of testoserone to a normal Cooper S at less cost, is irrelavent to me. I speak as a fully qualified Grumpy Old Man and have owned quite a few cars and imho, there is something very appealing about the Mk 1 of anything .. even if it is the 'NEW' Mini, it's still a MK 1 if you get my drift.
Maybe this is just me but I owned a MK 1 GTI from new and kept it 15 years (it fell apart). I also have a series 1 'e' type roadster in my garage. I know many out there would argue for example that the later V12 was a better car, well they are wrong so there!
I'm looking forward to my GP despite the wheels, wing mirrors and 'DIY' rear spoiler!
