Posting this on behalf of my daughter who has an annoying issue with a Warning Light on her F55 MINI Cooper S Auto

Here's the potted history:

Purchased in June 2023, from a large, reputable Ford main dealer.
The MINI had been traded for a Ford and they kept the MINI for resale.

A while back, the MINI threw up a warning light and requested 'Service Transmission Oil'. She booked it in to a local authorised MINI Dealer to have the work done, which they did.
The issue is they couldn't re-set the warning light and told her that the reason was the car had been mapped, so they couldn't/wouldn't re-set it.

The original dealer who sold the car wouldn't have known about the map.
My daughter wasn't aware of the map until the local MINI dealer mentioned it.

So, she needs the warning light to be extinguished, but no local ordinary garage seems to have the right software tool to do this.

Can anyone recommend an independent MINI specialist in North Essex area that may have suitable hardware to be able to extinguish the warning light and possibly return the map to standard?

Thanks in advance.

Mini 1320 are the go-to mini specialist in the country, they are midway between Cambridge & Northampton, just outside St Neots.

Presume its a 2021 car with the getrag auto gearbox 7 (speed dct) which do require servicing every 5 years. If it was a authorized Mini dealer part of the cost is to reset the gearbox service warning- did they reduce the cost as they wouldn't do this.
Car being mapped sounds like a load of Bullst Had mine none in 2023 (2018 car) and light was reset. Take it upwith Mini customer service if they wont budge.
If car has been mapped should be declared to insurers -ask dealer for proof on basis of this. If 21 car should have been serviced in 2023 was this done by same dealer?

Whilst they probably could technically reset the light, many main dealers have a do not touch policy when it comes to remapped cars...I can understand why tbh.

Plus, it's quite possible the 'box was remapped too...I've had both engine and box done on many bmws and vw

According to google AI:
To reset the "Service Transmission Oil" warning on a MINI F56 (2014+), you can use the built-in diagnostic menu or an OBD2 scanner. On F-series MINI models, this warning is sometimes added retrospectively, appearing as a drivetrain/service alert that may require a manual reset after service is performed.
Method 1: Dashboard Diagnostic Reset (No Tools)

Ignition ON: Turn the ignition on (press start button once without pressing the brake pedal) so the dash lights up but the engine does not run.
Display Service: Press and hold the trip odometer reset button (on the left side of the dashboard) for about 10 seconds until the first service job appears.
Navigate to Transmission: Use the BC button on the turn signal stalk to scroll through the service items until you reach "Transmission Oil" or "Service Transmission."
Reset: Hold the BC button on the turn signal stalk until the display reads "Reset?" or "Reset Possible".
Confirm: Release the BC button, then press and hold it again until "Reset in progress" appears and it finally shows "Reset successful".
Restart: Turn the ignition off and back on to verify the message is gone.

Method 2: OBD2 Scan Tool
A bi-directional scanner (e.g., Autel, iCarsoft BMM V3.0) can be used, as some automatic transmission resets are located in the "Hot Functions" menu rather than the standard service menu.

Connect the OBD2 scanner to the vehicle.
Navigate to the MINI F56 menu and select "Service" or "CBS Reset."
Choose the transmission/gearbox service option.
Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm the reset.

Note: The "Service Transmission Oil" message in some F56 models is a check control message, distinct from standard Condition Based Service (CBS) alerts like engine oil.

I'd probably just buy the OBD tool for the sake of £150 or whatever they cost, if method 1 doesn't work.

IIf was a 2014 it would have the steptronic 6 gearbox which just had a recommendation to change at about 80000miles 8 years. It was only cars produced from April 2018 with the Getrag 7 speed Dct that actually has a warning to advice about gearbox oil service.
Got it on my F56 at 5 years couldn't tell you about JCW which is an 8 speed box but the 5 door mini (F55) has the 7 speed Getrag box
