Hi, we looked at a 2018 Cooper yesterday & seeing a Cooper S today. Is there anything I should be watching out for outside of the usual boot seals & door paint rub / rust problem?

Apart from the boot seal, ours was 100% reliably during our 4 years ownership. Ours was a F55 MCS.

Thanks! That’s encouraging. Left a deposit on a car today! 18 plate post LCI, 58k miles. MCS too! Can’t wait to pick it up!

I have had a 2018 F55 Cooper for 3 years.....it's been a fantastic car, excellent reliability and I have no quibbles with the build quality and day to day usability as a station car and for running the kids around. It's only needed 2 tyres and a set of rear brake pads in that time - would certainly buy another.

I have a 2018 MCS, had it for a couple of months, I downsized from a Jag XFS 380bhp for it. And tbh, I'm enjoying the mini much more than the Jag, and I really liked the Jag.
The smaller size, passenger wise takes some getting used to, but most of the time there's only me or me and the wife in the car anyway.

There's a couple of forums or FB owners groups that will tell you everything you need to know. It's basically a BMW, so my research showed them to be reliable.

Oh, and I've started messing around and buying loads of bits for it. I thought I was past stuff like that at 54 yrs old biggrin

Just make sure it’s had the services on time.

Engine Oil Service every two years (or 18,000 miles – whichever comes first).

I would move it to a year. Two years is just too long. Did the interim oil service myself. Cheap as chips for the peace of mind.

Noted. Thanks! Already looking at small mods for it & it won’t even be mine! Could be a slippery slope….

What is the door paint rub/rust problem?

We've got a 2018 Cooper and the door contacts the pillar a bit. Is that it?

Yes, you can buy clear or coloured protection film/ stickers that are shaped and fit exactly where this issue pops up. I think i'm lucky, my 2018 MCS doesn't seem to have the issue but I do keep an eye on it. I should really buy the protectors.

After having one of the first Cooper S back in 2002 , I bought the other half a 2019 Exclusive version of the same model a few weeks back from Mini Stoke
Very well impressed with it and yes it does have the Door Pillar issue . Where are these Patches purchased from , are they a Mini OE item or something from a Craft or DIY store ?

No problem.

It's a wormhole though, I've just this morning finished de-chroming my Cooper S, also new side indicators etc. I really should grow up, but it does look better imo.

I'm really enjoying owning it as well. I was a bit concerned when I got it, but tbf, it's bloody briliant.
