Hi, just wondered if anyone has experienced the same as with my daughters 2015 Mini Cooper. Both drivers and passenger windows don’t drop on door opening and also when operating window switch they drop 2 inches at a time and don’t go all the way down or up. I’m thinking it’s maybe something to do with the main switch on driver side. Both motors obviously work albeit at 2 inches at a time. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

I am always amazed how many people don't know this but literally all cars have the same procedure.

Tried this and still not operating properly. When the switch is operated the window will drop or raise by about 2 inches at at time. Both driver and passenger side windows the same, don’t go all the way up or down with one touch or if switch held down, just stop each time after 2 inches.

Id suspect something is binding on the window regulator or the regulator cable, maybe even the window glass on the seal. Whatever it is, it sounds like it's tripping the anti-trap function, the motor thinks something is caught and it kills power to the motor until you press the button again. A dab of grease in the appropriate location will very likely be the solution.

If it was just one side doing this I could see that maybe the issue, but both sides are doing the same.

Do you have any more information on why both windows open and close 2 inches at a time for each press of the switch. If it was one side doing this I would suspect, as previously stated above, could be something to do with anti trap sensing but it happens on both windows.
I understand the resetting process for the window dropping but this assumes the windows go all the way up and down with one press of the switch

I thought that anti-trap was on closing only, and typically if the window was raising it would stop and drop perhaps 4".

As it is happening identically on both sides I would rule out tight mechanism / guides.

Therefor I would suspect the central control electronics - have you done a battery reset / pulled he relevant fuse ?

Assuming it's a 2 stage switch....

If you hold down the switch at the first indent, what happens?

I'm also assuming it's the second intent of the switch where it stops after 2in?

(Usually) you need to get the window to the top and bottom, and hold the switch at the first detent for a couple of seconds for the car the "learn" where fully closed and fully open is.

Not sure, but just keep pressing down until they reach the bottom & then hold & then try up with the same when they get there.

Yes, done that to try the reset process but no luck with any of the reset methods

I put the car on charge for about four or five hours the other day as it hadn’t been used for a couple of weeks. My daughter live in Switzerland and was coming home this weekend so thought I’d give it a bit of a charge up.
Yes, you’re right,of course the anti trap feature wouldn’t affect the opening of the window which it does in the same 2 inch drops for the press of the switch.
Cheers for the input so far chaps, hopefully we’ll get it sorted. I’ve got the windows set just to enable opening of the doors atm.

Same thing happens at either stage 1 or stage 2 of the switch, 2 inch drop or 2 inch raise then stop and repeat for a further 2 inch and so on. Happens same at both driver and passenger switches. Do you know if the master switch on the drivers side were to be faulty, would this affect the operation from the passenger switch as well ?

Does it have "comfort opening/closing" or whatever it's called?

Hold the unlock button on the key fob (can't remember for how long, but it's a fair few seconds) and see if the windows drop that way.

Battery is fine mate, only put it in charge as a precaution as it doesn’t get a lot of use but starts well all the time even when stood for a week or so at a time.

No comfort opening ( is that when you don’t need to press the key fob to open ?)

I might be getting my terms wrong, but most German stuff lets you open the widows by holding the unlock button on the fob.

This was way before keyless stuff.

Yes, most do that with the windows by holding down the open/close button. I thought comfort is when the door opens and locks when you just stand near with the key.

Comfort access is keyless entry. Comfort Entry is for pillarless doors where you press unlock twice and the window rolls half way down making it easier to get in.
