F56 JCW Pre-LCI. 6 speed auto?
Discussion
Hey,
Does anyone have much experience with the automatic gearbox in this car?
I'm looking at a 2016 and would prefer an automatic for my usage. How does it compare to later ZF gearboxes, anything I should know or general feedback?
The example I'm looking at has the paddle shifters on there too.
Thanks,
Anthony

Hi, I had a 2015 Countryman Cooper D with an auto, so must likely the same gearbox. I found it to be really good, pretty quick shifts and not much need to use it in manual mode as it was smart enough to tend to be in the right ratio most of the time. Probably helped by having the extra torque of a diesel behind it. No complaints for both around town and long roadtrips.
I have to say, I much prefer it to the DCT I've got in my current 2018 F55. That's always in the wrong gear, loves doing double down shifts that leave you waiting to accelerate and is pretty rough when it's cold.
