Mini F-series MMI box and parking camera

I'm awaiting delivery of a new (second hand) 2014 Mini Cooper hatch. I'm after getting an MMI box to add carplay to the infotainment unit and I'd also like to add a reversing camera since it has no PDC. There seem to be dozens of different MMI boxes available from all over the place and at a huge variety of prices. Is there much difference between them all? I'm looking at the one from Droid as it is only £240 including a rear camera, others I've seen cost twice as much and seem to offer no other benefits.

One thing I can't figure out is whether you can use an MMI box to run a front-facing dash cam as well (ie record footage via the box and download to a memory stick/card). And if you can do this, can you use the reversing camera as a rear-facing dash cam too? That would be ideal for me but I'll settle for front dash cam/rear reversing cam.

Also, what's the deal with notifying insurers about this "modification"? AFAIC it's an accessory not a mod, but I'm sure they'll take a different view.
