After much searching, I finally found the spare key for my R53 Cooper.S
It didnt work for remote unlocking, but ok for door lock, starts and runs car.
The handbook says that I should take the car for a run to charge the key battery, with it in the ignition. I have done this, around 10 miles, but still nothing works.
Should I have driven it further or is the key 'no good' as its been in the drawer for a few years.?
Ideas please.

Try this. Get in & shut the doors. Put the key in the ignition, turn it to position one, then remove it, and while holding down the unlock button & press lock three times within ten seconds. It should pair the key with the car & you'll know it's worked if the doors lock & unlock,
If that doesn't work, might be the battery that's gone. They're Panasonic VL2020 90 degree batteries & you have to open up the case & carefully desolder the existing battery to change them over.
