the new new mini
Discussion
To date, Mini has simply removed the oily bits of an ICE car and done their best to shove in some electric stuff - so significantly compromised, particularly in the matters of range and weight, because they can't get very much battery into the limited space. Proper electric cars need to be designed as electric from the ground up.
Possibly viable as a local runabout with a familiar shape/badge although to my mind there are better solutions available from Hyundai, Kia and others.
Mind you, if there really is an "all new" car coming in 2024 these comments are likely to be out of date...

yes i was asking regarding the allegedly "all new" 2024 car currently visiting uk dealersPossibly viable as a local runabout with a familiar shape/badge although to my mind there are better solutions available from Hyundai, Kia and others.

seen in isolation, the proportions and size appeared very similar to the current model, even if the styling and the internal architecture were very different

Whilst the range doesn't appear to be any good to most, my wife has one as it fits her user case perfectly. Possibly viable as a local runabout with a familiar shape/badge although to my mind there are better solutions available from Hyundai, Kia and others.

Something like 12000 miles, all charged at home as her daily mileage is never more than 50.
It is 100kg heavier than the equivalent petrol version, so it's only like carrying an overweight adult.
So the MINI E or MINI SE - two battery sizes is a brand new chassis and purpose built from the ground up as a BEV
Its a really nice car and will be the big seller - new petrol is on a evolution of the existing chassis but with service pack 21 (new driver assistance systems in line with BMW)

Yep, very suited as a 2nd car/runabout. Far more so than most of the E-uberpanzersSomething like 12000 miles, all charged at home as her daily mileage is never more than 50.

OK, was it this truck?
Sycamore MINI - OUR FIRST LOOK - The NEW All-Electric MINI Cooper (with JCW styling pack/trim)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrVZ2Qx-S6U
Assuming the new JCW (electric or petrol) will look essentially the same, as with previous gens - and as with before we can debate whether you should even be able to option the styling kit on lesser models as it devalues the JCW model imo.
My thoughts - it is at least an improvement on the blue Ora Funky Cack seen at the shows. The JCW styling bits on the front corners, side skirts, GP1/2 style rear spoiler and rear diffuser/apron, and in a dark metallic grey with red roof and mirrors (always a good combo) it does look a tad more aggressive and sharper at the edges and less blobby.
The jury is still out on the rear lights - when I first saw them I though they were gopping and not in character. But then I never liked those on the F56 vs the perfectly proportioned ones on the R56. It may well be one of those things that grow over time. Maybe months or years rather than weeks though. Still think the loss of the black arch extensions is a mistake, and the front end again may take a while to get used to.
The interior looks a lot better in black and red JCW trim, although I'm still not sure about the textured finish on the dash.

I do like my F56 JCW, but the all new car needs to be a massive step up for the price they are charging.

Ta, just had a play - here is a red one in Sport trim (JCW style pack) you can 360 view:https://configure.mini.co.uk/en_GB/configure/J01/1...

Or in Legend Grey with red roof:

I don't think I'll be buying an electric one this side of 2030, but maybe a petrol JCW could be interesting if it has something like 250bhp.

Much more modern looking, but personally, I am not a fan.Edited to add - I’ve just seen the interior. Only having a central display is an absolute no no for me. Far too distracting but obviously cheap to manufacture for LHD / RHD markets.
