New Countryman JCW- YES OR NO CURRENT MODEL
Discussion
Hi,
I’m thinking of getting a new Countryman JCW being one of the last of the current model. Not interested in the new shape for next year.
It’ll have the premium plus pack and be to my spec/colour.
I’ve had a few hatch JCW in the past and loved them and I’m getting a 1to6 edition. The Countryman will be more off a daily with a commute of about 60 mile’s total twice a week and about 60-100 miles a week running around with the odd long trip. It’ll be a keeper for the long term as the commute will end in a year or two.
Any thoughts/experience welcome.
Thanks.

I'd quite like a JCW F60 but as a 2 or 3 day a week 20 ish mile each way mostly motorway commuter and the odd sub 10 mile local run I bought an auto 1.5 Cooper instead. Personally I wanted a comfier ride so was not interested in the 18/19" wheels. Size wise and as a package quite enjoying it for what it is. I have a bigger car for family outings and a less practical more fun car for other occasions.
The one thing I’d say is the current car is a six year old design. And in some ways it feels older as it’s so similar to the F series hatch which was released even longer ago.
The infotainment, digital dash and ambient lighting have all been tweaked to make it feel more modern, but it is starting to show its age.
I’ve also never been convinced the MiNI interior design works well in such a large car.
If you buy it to keep in a few years time it’s going to feel even more dated. So £40k plus for a car which in three years time may well feel from a previous generation.
But…if you’re ok with the above then go for it. I’ve got a Clubman JCW so lots of similarities. Very fast, usable, plenty of character, AWD is handy, different to the competition and doesn’t attract the same sort of wrong attention certain other brands do.
I’d try out the JCW seats if you order. I found them very hard and would go leather instead. Oh, and the sunroof blind will rattle.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve had a couple of f56 jcw hatches and a convertible and I’ve got a JCW 1to6 coming so I’m a bit of a fan and love the seats !
The older nature of the design is part of the attraction as I hate the new trends towards a “techy” design language that comes with electrification and I have no interest in any electric/hybrid version .
