My wife had a Cooper before kids came along and I loved driving it, great fun, but always felt it could do with (and easily handle) a bit more power.

I'd be going with the S if it were me.

Why does the JCW need to be new? There are really good second hand proposition on these as they are really spec sensitive so if you're flexible you can pick up a good buy.

Rather new tbh and i have seen many used with leather, something i do not want.
JCWs with leather is extremely rare, mostly because the superb JCW seats do not come in leather so they actually downgrade the seats to get leather. They mostly come with alcantara or cloth+alcantara, probably 90%+ of the cars.

Thanks as i didn't know that....

Really dislike chrome too so that rules out all but the latest model i believe.
Not really as dechroming is super easy and cheap.

But it's not - so best go with the wife's sensible view that the Cooper is the best bet, making sure you avoid the runflats which ruin the ride and are super noisy
