Wondering if anyone else has experienced the fuel cap door not closing / locking properly on their Mini hatch? Ours is a 2016 model JCW and recently the fuel cap door no longer seems to hold itself in the fully shut position - see picture below. The central locking latch seems slow to engage so I'm going to try and lubricate the mechanism with WD40 or silicone spray however the fuel cap door should still sit flush with the body even when the car isn't locked yet it isn't doing that and there is no obvious reason why. Any help appreciated, thanks

I've had this quite often, but it seems to be caused by the rubber retaining wire blocking the mechanism.

Next time it happens, try pulling this retainer around the cap, toward the hinge.

Thanks. I’m assuming you mean the retainng cable that’s attached to the screw fuel cap itself?

Yes, that rubber strap/cable.

I think when it finds itself positioned across the cap, it stops the door closing.
