Reliability and economy will both be good. However in my experience a JCW is not a particularly refined car (harsh ride and quite a lot of wind noise and tyre roar), so I'd keep this in mind if it's for regular longer commutes.

If you can go for 17” wheels over 18s although not a deal breaker.
We have a manual and over 5 years averaged 41mpg mixed driving.
Touch wood 5 years and 18k miles no issues.
The Bmw engine in minis is a very good lump shared with 3 and 5 series etc

Had four MINIs over 15 years or so. Reliability was fine.

Now got a 135i which shares the same engine as the JCW, current mpg ranges between 33 and 37 measured brim to brim. Mostly A roads and motorways.

Mrs ZS had a 2021 auto 3 door JCW. 17" wheels made it more refined than the 2018 Clubman Cooper S we had before it which was on 18"s. Obviously it's not an S-Class, but refinement was fine for the 25 mile B road commute, and we took it on longer runs with no issues.

Reliability was fine for the 2 years/25k miles and I think it averaged about 40mpg over our ownership.

We have one albeit a manual which we bought new in 2016. Generally reliable. Issues we have had include needing the front discs changed twice in 13k miles, rear caliper holders corroding though BMW contributed to the cost of replacing them, alarm system was also replaced with a contribution from BMW. Worth monitoring the paintwork near the door lock latches - ours started to wear away early on which was sorted under warranty with clear ppf applied to stop it happening again.

Also, we have the 18’s still on the original run flat tyres but with the semi active dampers and it seems fine from a comfort point of view.

I'd seen pictures of it.

We had a JCW Countryman ordered with a similar lead time, but gave up when it kept gong backwards

Got our JCW hatch a few weeks ago, approx 3 months from order.

I have been surprised how comfy it is, I don’t find it crashy / harsh or that much tyre or road noise!
Saying that I am used to driving vans and older hot hatches.

It is obviously a world apart from my wifes velar, but that was the appeal of the mini!

If anything I wish it was a bit noiser, the exhaust only has a little rumble

We have similar and totally agree on noise. They’ve ruined the latest version
