Wife parked the Mini on the drive, dropped the shopping off and went back out to the post office.

She called me to say that she could not find the keys and that the car could not be locked, I went with the spare key and she drove back home.

The problem is that she left the keys on the rear roof spoiler at the back of the car.

Car had been left open for over 15 mins but when she got back in the keyless start worked even though the keys were not in the car.

Luckily a passerby had found them some 300 metres away and posted on the local social media pages so we got the keys back.

This should not have happened so I went around the outside of the car with the keys and the wife trying to start the car, each time the error message popped up on the display stating that the key was required.

Except when I popped the keys back onto the roof of the car it started first time.

So just be aware your Mini (or BMW) could do the same, do not leave the keys on the roof.
