Afternoon!

My wife and I are looking to purchase an F60 Countryman S for an impending family.

The Countryman ticks all of our boxes in terms of performance and design however, as we’ve not been parents before we have slight concerns over the boot space, given that it’s middle of the road on the smaller SUV front.

Does anyone have any photographs of their Countymans loaded up for child duties (pushchairs/prams/day bags) or can offer any advice on the family front in terms of luggage space?

Many thanks!

The wife has a F55 5 door hatch Cooper S. it’s tight. But just manageable. I believe the Countryman uses the same floor pan. So you’ll be fine. We took the car to Mammas and Pappas and they let us try the prams in the boot. In fact they had the rear half of a Countryman in the shop to let you try stuff out.

Lots of prams did not fit. We ended up with the Nuna Mixx Next full travel system. The pram fits in the boot no problem. The front passenger seat is a little tight on space when the car seat is in the isofix. We generally have enough space until we realise we have to fit the dog in!

The plus is when the wife wants more space and takes my V40. I have the Cooper S and it’s just a fun car to drive. It’s excellent in that respect.

We had two young kids (0 and 3 year old) with a R55 Clubman. Any countryman will be fine.

We did multiple two week holidays with it, but just had a roof box fitted for longer trips away.

It is all possible with something slightly smaller and the kids (10 and 13) are now fine with an F55 Cooper D as our main car, plus a dog....... Although we do have an old T25 camper van too, now.......

There is a slight obsession, probably driven through advertising and peer pressure that you need a large SUV if you have kids. It can make loading the kids in and out easier, but certainly not impossible with smaller vehicles...... And most the time the car will be empty anyway.....
