Boot not opening

Hi, bought a 02 Cooper as a second car/runaround, low mileage all paperwork and mot’s since new, a great little car drives lovely. The seller had it 5yrs and looked after it, he said the remote lock/unlock hadn’t worked for a while and just used the key which didn’t bother me, today the boot won’t unlock, was told about the cable under the back seat, took it out no cable !! the bracket is there for it, did the early ones have it fitted ? any ideas how to unlock it ?? sorry for the long story 😁 tia

The boot pull should be in there, maybe take the whole rear bench out and see if it’s come loose and gone down the back
