Power steering 06 mini one

Hi mini people hope you can help me, my next door neighbour has asked me to look at her Mini thinking it was the alternator flattening the battery but the alternator turned out to be the power steering tank vibrating haha, When you connect the battery the power steering tank vibrates as if it is connected to a electric motor is the steering split between hydraulic / electric your help would be appreciated

The steering is electro-hydraulic.

The pumps are renowned for getting damaged by dirt/brush carbon/oil deposits which causes internal electrical issues & likely extended running.

It sounds like you have this issue & will need a new pump.

When it is replaced, ensure the fan is working also or it won't last long.
