Hi all,

Got a Mini Cooper S R56. It’s been in the family since new and I’ve now got it as a second car for myself as a bit of fun/project.

When it was new it used to pop and bang like they do in ‘sport’ mode. The car did sit round for a bit and appeared to have lost the pops and bangs.

Yesterday I had a stage 2 map on the car along with supporting mods - cobra sports cat, airtec FMIC and ITG panel filter. The car was back popping and banging once the software was on and made a decent gain on the dyno. The map was done by 1320mini who use a guy who used to own and write the maps for manic motorsport before they folded so the map is basically an equivalent map to manic stage 2.

After around 10-15 mins driving the pops and bangs stopped AGAIN. I can’t for the life of my figure out why. I know a lot hate pops and bangs and I do when they’re OTT, but do want them back on the mini purely for the fun.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not normal. As I've had mine mapped by Nik (manic) for a couple of years and not lost its soundtrack.

Can only think it's an issue with the map itself, does it still feel as rapid ,although quieter?

Yeah definitely increased performance. The strange thing is it lost the pops and bangs before the map. It’s really bugging me what’s causing it. It was Nick who did this map.

Surely, the best people to ask the question of would be 1320?

Yep, will do that Monday morning once they’re back open, just being impatient!

Have they checked the map?

Possibly reflash it to see if the noise returns ?

It’s a strange one. The pops and bangs do happen and when they do it sounds exactly as it should but they just happen for a period of time the stop, same as it was doing as standard, bizarre!

It could just be a conditional thing, mine sometimes won't pop and bang then others it won't stop even on light throttle.

Mine are set up on the sport button, when not in sport the exhaust is muted, but performance is as per mapped.
In sport it's gunfire , and stays that way, which is exactly what I wanted as a shift worker, I could drive home in the early hours without disturbing anyone .
So if yours is the same, and as mapped by the same guy it should be, wondering if the sport selection is having a hissy fit at times and returning to normal ?
Just a guess and grasping at straws
