We had this when one of the HT leads was on the way out. It didn't always show a code of
or the engine light

Let me get this straight.

driving is very jerky when you take your foot off pedal and gently press again.
So you are going on/off the throttle, and the drive train is "jerky".

Really?

Still not quite sure what you mean.

A rotating mass can't "instantly" accelerate from 1.2k rpm to 1.5k rpm.

It can only be that the change is too quick for the rev counter to catch up.

If there were a throttle body issue I would expect a fault code to be stored as the position is monitored.
