JCW hatch manual gearbox comeback?
Discussion
Hi all.
It seems that auto only across the range is still the only option on the configurator. I simply do not want a new JCW - it would be my fourth- unless it is a manual and I hate to think that I’ve bought my last Mini.
The local dealer doesn’t seem to know if a manual will ever be available again despite some fairly vague USA press that it is coming back.
Anyone aware of what is happening- rumours or otherwise?

No idea unfortunately. Would you consider approved used? Probably less depreciation too and same warranty that you can extend.
I just bought a 17 JCW manual and it is a giggle. It would probably be less fun as an auto for that kind of car although I can see how it suits someone with a different use.

Sold my last one - big mistake.
I'd like to be able to spec one and keep it forever so used doesn't really appeal.
I've resigned myself to probably 2 more buys and that is it for me as I have absolutely no interest in or wish to own an electric car. I bought a Panda Cross 4x4 and an Abarth 595 Comp. in 2022 to keep and I'm waiting for a Boxster GTS 4.0 so the JCW would complete the fleet, although comparable in terms of my use to the Abarth.

What about this?

Not cheap but very high spec. A manual 2nd facelift is super rare, let alone an anniversary edition.

I know I'm going to sound really picky but - no sunroof. I did look at these when they came out and but for that ....
I know that sunroofs are not everyone's cup of tea but I love them and have always had one in my Minis - and even in my mini Cooper - as well as my Abarths and I know I would miss it too much, especially as its a keeper.
Great car though and I think Rebel Green with white roof and stripes would be my choice now.

As much as I like my JCW, I think they're out their league once they hit mid 30k+. IMO the next JCW needs to be substantially better in all regards (power, chassis, refinement) if it's to compete with 35k+ vehicles.https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/14383779?u...

Same with me over 250,000 miles in 3 minis, 2 with sunroof and 3rd is roadster 59…with luck a new replacement should hit 2nd hand values for the JCW F56, and covid will have kept many on lower than average milages also, I know that sunroofs are not everyone's cup of tea but I love them and have always had one in my Minis - and even in my mini Cooper - as well as my Abarths and I know I would miss it too much, especially as its a keeper.

I’m planning on a replacement for my F56 Sd in 12-18 months time,
so we won’t be fighting for the same car

Well apparently JCW manuals can be ordered again but for some stupid reason only with the premium pack not premium plus so no sunroof, camera etc. That seems to make absolutely no sense at all to me. The opposite would have made a bit of sense I.e. you have to upgrade to the plus pack to get a manual.
As a result it’s a non starter for me and it looks like I’ve had my last Mini. Well done the product planners.

Yes you would think a replacement model hits values for the outgoing one. But in practice it doesn't always happen, particularly looking at cars that are 3/4/5 years old. They simply are at price points where they don't compete with the new model. Particularly as the F56 is reliable unlike the previous gen. I reckon the new JCW might start at well over £30k. In fact I find that the launch of new model even sometimes promotes the model as a whole, including older shape used cars. I’m planning on a replacement for my F56 Sd in 12-18 months time,

This weeks Autocar has a feature on which new cars are being launched in 2023, this includes a new Mini Hatch due in December. I suspect they won’t bother bringing back a manual for the current model.
You can get manuals again at the momentSadly no sunroof in conjunction with the standard models manual though
Only with a slusher
