I have to change the wheel bearing on our mini and need to buy a hexagonal bit socket to remove the drive shaft. Would anyone know what the correct size of hexagonal bit to buy?

BMW seem to love 7mm ones as they do not come as standard. Not sure where the hex needs to be used.

Are you talking about removing the brake disc to get to the hub? - Torx??

It’s a 17mm Hexagonal socket to remove the bolt that secures the driveshaft. First time I have seen this.

I needed to buy a torx bit think it was e14 to remove the rear calliper holder, why do manufacturers used odd random bolt heads ??
What’s wrong with hex or Allen?

Torx is often a better head for many applications although in some situations it can be a real PITA.

I know this is an old thread but the driveshaft nut is not 17mm, it's 32mm.

Our Mini has a hexagonal head bolt on the driveshaft so bit different. A new bolt was supplied with the wheel bearing kit.
