2007 R56 Mini One 1.6 - which engine?
Discussion
Having done a little digging and reading buyers' guides, it seems you have to be careful which engine you go for with an older Mini One.
But I cannot seem to find an easy reference to them.
Does anyone know which engine a 2007 R56 Mini One 1.6 would have?
And while I'm at it, are these the right things to be checking for:
- timing chain noise
- water pump and fans, check for engine running hot/starting properly/fans working properly
- coil packs, look for any hesitance
- oil leaks
And then just usual items.
Looking over a car with a neighbour - am fine with the general car stuff, just looking for model specifics.

Thanks.
Turns out it's a Cooper, wrongly advertised.
Defo a 1.6.
Regular, gentle ticking from the engine which I believe may be the VVT... But no rattles.
Car's in decent enough condition for the age.
Most recent service history is a bit vague (seller's going to get the garage to stamp the book and provide details of what they did.
Mot history is impeccable, unlike a lot of others I3seen advertised (not that you can tell much from that).
Doesn't have USB or Aux In so also want to check how Bluetooth could be added.

I think the R56s are great cars for the money, just a question of going in with eyes open, as it sounds like you are doing.
I bought a 2007 R56 Cooper for our son to learn in 18 months ago with no service history and 130k miles. I changed the tensioner as a precaution (easy task), changed all fluids, plugs etc, so we had a known starting point, only thing it has needed has been a sticking brake calliper. Would buy the same again, I’ll often take it out in preference to my main car.
Ours has an aux socket, it’s just in front of the gear stick…

I thought they all had an aux. It's just a bit difficult to see if you don't know where to look. In front of the gear leaver and under the switches

Owner provided the service paperwork so all looks good on that front.
Neighbour bought it, pick it up at the weekend. £2.4k, 66k miles, 2 owners.
Did have a look in that location for the auxin. Will help them out on that as and when.
Looking at videos, I reckon I could change the timing chain if it needed it.
Thanks all.
