Mrs UTH's Countryman, KwikFit claimed it needed a new battery, was going to charge £240!
I bought the same battery for £100 and changed it yesterday. I'm not a mechanic, but a like for like swap removing a bit of trim is very much within my skills.

Mrs told me that there's now an exclamation mark on the dash, "ABS and Traction symbol" according to her research. I'll take a look when she gets home from work.

Anyone come across this? I find it hard to believe that me swapping the battery for a new one could possibly cause anything to go wrong, but it does seem strange this has popped up the first drive since I made the swap.

Ah thank you.

Think she'll have to take it to a dealer.....can't do that until next Saturday, hoping nothing will go wrong by then? Doesn't sound hugely urgent?

Try a local independant, it takes only a few minutes.
Some remapping tools you get on your phone can do it as well. So it's not difficult.

Tricky thing is she's a teacher so can't really get to one during the week

Looks like you can buy the kit/apps, but not sure it's really worth it to buy it all if an indie could do it for a few quid?

Also, you can't do it just using your phone can you? Looks like you need a piece of kit as well? If I can just use my phone then I'd do it.....

You'll need an application and an OBD2 cable usually for Mini/BMW they connect via Ethernet, you can get Ethernet to USBC adaptor for your phone.

Ahhh ok, I've seen the £30 app, so that cable + app and I'm winning?

Yes something like BimmerLINK would do it. Plus you can then do other things like coding tweaks I'd assume.

Up to you smile

Thank you. Hopefully I have averted a furious wife claiming I've destroyed her car.

My worry is if you do something wrong or the new battery goes flat you could brick the car.

I'd be using a garage that know what they are doing.

Yeah I'm off on hols tomorrow so I'm not around to do it anyway, I've told her to get to a garage. Stupid me for thinking swapping a battery would be as simple as it is in my 2001 Mitsi Evo haha.
