My beloved 2012 Mini 1 baker street, on 192,500 miles decided to sound a little rough for 10 mins on Tuesday evening, then yesterday would turn over, but not start. RAC called out. matey suggested the timing chain has let go.

An indi garage has suggested that could be between £3 and £5 to repair/replace engine.

They are going to scope it to confirm things are not right.

The car has been a good servant to me being used as a learner car (still on first clutch!!!)

Gutted. The car has worked hard. The timing chain is a non service item i have been advised, although higher than most on the miles the car still looks good. Such a shame

I guess you got your money's worth out of it though. Be interesting to find out what has gone wrong.
