We've recently put black wheels on to my wife's R56 Cooper SD JCW and now would like to change the chrome trims (headlight surrounds, grille etc) to black also. Where is the best place to get them? There is loads on Ebay but I'm hesitant to buy due to potential quality of the items.

Daft though it sounds lots use good quality electricians tape.

There are millions on ebay, I suspect that is where most come from.

Yep, there's a few de-chroming kits available (basically black tape for a lot of it).

Petrol Ped did a (YouTube) video a while back de-chroming his Clubman JCW, some of it was tape and other bits were replacing the trim, I'm sure there were links to the products used.

This is who Petrol Ped used, I was tempted to dechrome ours as it wasn't an optional extra at the time.

Hi OP, for my R58 I used official Mini front and rear headlight/tail light black replacement surrounds and black grille surrounds (so very high quality and perfect fit).

I got the rest of the bits - door handle covers, black badge surrounds, headlamp washer covers and belt line tape (this is gloss finish, hard wearing and therefore better that insulation tape) from killallchrome.

I took the side repeaters apart and dechromed those by spraying the chrome inserts with smooth black hammerite gloss (Ped had his Roadster side scuttles done in matt finish, which I did not like as it does not tie in with the gloss black of everything else). I also replaced the side repeater lenses with official Mini tinted items and added chromed bulbs.

Doing the belt line is best done in the warmth and set aside some time and be patient! The finished look is a big improvement :-

I used a mixture of smps2012 and killallchrome for the front grill strip/beltline/door handles/fuel cap, and I used BMW OEM front and rear light surrounds. I just used eBay for the side indicators, and I can't remember who I used for the main front grill(I've still got the chrome front grill in my garage!).

I really enjoyed dechroming mine(taking the front bumper off to do the front grill was a bit of a test for my limited DIY skills though!).
