Hi - I've just bought a 2018 5 door Cooper (Petrol) from a Main dealer. All is good, apart from the Stop Start. When the engine fires back up it's with quite a jolt, almost feels like an engine mount is lose. I spoke to the dealer at the time and got the response 'They all do that / it's a because it's a high compression engine', which might be the case - although I'm sure another one I drove before was not like this. There's no other symptoms of any other issues, so was wondering if this is normal?

Cheers

We have a 2015 F55 Cooper D. Our stop-start does not seem like that, it cuts in and out quite smoothly.

Just ask if you can do a back to back road test with another similar model they have.

I got my 66 plate F55 Cooper S 3 weeks ago the stop/start is generally smooth. There have been a couple of times when there has been a bit of a jolt but not often.

Wouldn't believe anything a dealer said.

My car drinking oil was because "its a high performance engine "

No, no its not.

We have a 2017 Cooper S and the stop start is almost unnoticeable.

I have a mini Cooper 1.5 and on initial start up the engine jolts. Has done for the last 5 years. Its quite a jolt. If I use stop start its not noticeable. Its a three cylinder car so I have always put it down to the way the crank is balanced. The car has been faultless and punches above the size of the engine capacity. No oil loss from service to service. It is part of the character of the car. Enjoy the car its nothing to worry about

Just to conclude on this (and maybe useful to help someone else with the same issue), I had the Mini in for a service this week and asked them to take a look at the noisy / stop start. Turns out two engine mounts had to be replaced! Quite surprised that these would fail on a 4 year old car with 24k miles on it, but it's certainly fixed the problem. Thankfully, it's got a Mini approved warranty on it that covered the cost 100%
