So the slog of searching for a replacement car for my Wife continues and appears never ending!

Initially set on signing up to another lease agreement particularly the F56 LCI II Cooper S 5dr or Electric Level 2 or 3, but as offers are few and far between at the moment it’s made us reconsider and look at alternatives, hence considering the JCW.

We’d be looking at say a 18/68 with less than 30k on the clock.

We’ve had a few Mini’s over the years, including a F55, R60 and F60, so familiar territory. Had the F60 Cooper S for 3.5 year and despite being a Countryman, it’s been a fantastic car and really enjoyable to drive.

Anyone give advice on how practical the JCW is on a day to day basis?

The car will be mostly used by my Wife commuting back and forth to work, a 35 mile round trip 3 days a week with the occasional use from me travelling into the office in Leeds which is a 150 mile round trip everyone couple of times a month.

We have 2018 JCW (Lci) manual and it’s our one car to do everything and perfect for the job it is .Plenty fast enough and not too bad on fuel. Ride is not too harsh even on the run flats and we have pot holed country roads to deal with on a daily basis and also often do 300 mile round trips to see family.
Good solid built car, strong engine that’s shared with bmw range it’s even in a 5 series.
Only minor negative which is not a problem for us is rear space is small but then it is a mini!
IMHO you either buy the standard cooper for a cheaper car or the JCW

This is going to sound ridiculous, but how does it compare to your Cayman? In terms of real world fun, on a B road blast.

I had a Gen 1 F56 JCW hatch for a couple of years (65 plate) and did 50k in it.

For commuting it's pretty good - half decent on fuel but can be a bit of a hooligan when you want it to be, I'd make sure you get CarPlay for Waze / google maps etc. Seats are fine - as said above it really is only a two seater with a big boot if you put the seats down.

in the time I had it it had tyres, brakes and an earth fault in one of the rear lights (sorted under warranty) so pretty cheap to run.

It got replaced with a 718 Cayman - the MINI is probably easier to drive faster, but less of an event - not sure I ever took the mini out just for the sake of a drive. We also have a F57 Cooper S convertible - the difference between the S and the JCW is pretty noticeable.

Thanks all for the feedback. Seems a Cayman is the car of choice after a JCW!

Managed to pick up a new LCI II John Cooper Works 3dr Hatch in Rebel Green!

Cancelled order with favourable terms from BMW! Too good not to have taken up the offer!

Should have it within the next 2-3 weeks 😬

Will be sure to post some pics when it arrives!

Pictures when available! We love our F55 MCS. I do take it out just for a drive.
