Hello all. Daughters’ 54 plate coopers gearbox requires replacement. I’ve even chatting to a chap that reconditions them and said that 2004 was the changeover. The car was built in sept 2004, and registered then too. My thoughts after a bit of research is that it’s a Getrag. Your thoughts and views appreciated. biggrin

If it requires replacement it will over 90% certainly be a Midland unless it has been run dry.

The Getrag gearbox was released (late?) July 2004 iirc.

Thats a facelift car so should be the updated gearbox. If it needs changing out then just get the Cooper S 6 Speed, they are all Getrag

Will.the 5 speed have the same casing as the 6 speed? I thought the S had a different subframe, even after 2004. I could be wrong.

5 speed Getrag 100%.

You can upgrade to a 6 speed but would need to change the shafts to suit.
