Got in the car today (2019 JCW Hatch) and after a few yards it starts making repeated emergency calls. Gets through to the service centre a couple of times - apparently an automated function that I can’t stop. So looks like a fault - anyone else has this?

Actually incredibly distracting when trying to drive on busy A road with nowhere to stop and find out what is happening so not much of a safety function imo.

I’ll see if it’s reset overnight - if not I’ll get the RAC to recover it to the dealer. It’s undriveable as it is - makes a call about once a minute and you have 5 seconds to cancel before it connects.

Car collected by Mini Assistance within 45 minutes of me calling them. Taken to a dealer of my choice - which was great as I don’t rate the closest one.
Predictably requires a new control module, also appears to have an erroneous battery discharge warning (I fully charged the battery 10 days ago) which they think is linked.
Also predictably the part is on 7-10 days back order, which feels like a standard holding estimate without much degree of confidence. So a bmw or Mini loan car is being sourced for me.
Good thing the car is still in warranty - serious consideration required to extending this if I keep the car beyond 3 years as I don’t think this will be a cheap fix.
When I asked if they had experienced this before - they said no but mine was the second this week…..

To complete the saga - car returned ahead of schedule today and seems ok so far. Retail cost of fix close to £700 - so will be buying a warranty of some description if I keep the car beyond 3 years.

Can’t fault the dealer or Mini Assistance who were great - less so Enterprise who gave me a rather tired 7 seat VW Touran with a red Service light instead of the BMW or Mini they are supposed to provide.
