I've fancied a r53 Cooper s for a while and been trawling classifieds as you do.
I'd like a grey one with black roof none sunroof example in decent nick for sub 3k.
What I've noticed is the light blue ones are far cheaper than any other on average.
There are a few nice/good condition and spec ones in this blue that meet my criteria but in the interest of resale value down the line are they generally unpopular?

Why are you worried about resale value on a car that is already close to shed money? The electric blue colour was very popular on the R53 in the early days do it is probably down to numbers as much as anything why they seem to be cheapest. If you like the colour then buy one…

If you look after the penny's the pounds will look after themselves.

Always worked for me and I like to keep my toy car fund separate from the household. Mrs can't complain then. This is why I'm bothered about resale value.

I would be looking at the possibility that any of the miriad of other things affecting value would have a greater effect than colour, especially on a car of that age.

R53 popular colours tend to be silver, dark grey or black. You do see a few Red or BRG around, but while that blue was popular at the time it’s not aged well. That’s why you tend to see them a lot cheaper to buy.

Electric blue was a Cooper S only colour until mid 2005; dark silver remained a Cooper S only colour. This is why they were popular on the S, as it was a way of showing you had an S and not a Cooper.

I've had my electric blue JCW for 17 years and I still love the colour, must get that salon started biggrin

Electric Blue was a Cooper S only colour until the facelift in June/July 2004, when it was replaced with Hyper Blue. Electric Blue then went across the range being available on the One and Cooper Hatch, but not Convertible.
