Have just dropped £30k on a new LCi2 JCW Cab. A stunning car in every way.
But my conscience making me feel like i should have jumped into a Mini E instead.
If the Mini came wirh a JCW kit (and ideally cabrio form) it would hve been a no brainer.
But i'm not a big fan of the current spec levels and lack of options.

But...

I am environementally concious, despite being a petrol head - so you could say i'm conflicted.
What makes this worse is that it's a 2nd car used for very short journeys, very much a toy. So electric should have been spot on as range will never be an issue.

Arrrrrrggghhhhh!

So far i've just paid the deposit. Car is due end of Jan 22.
What would you do?

Personally as a round town car I would go plain cooper with sport pack for circa £21k which can be achieved with discount. Mind you we have Jcw which is used as a daily no commute and occasionally long journeys and it’s fine we average 40mpg.
Electric can wait imho better to go hybrid

I've got a JCW Clubman and it's hard to exploit the power around town. It's obviously faster than the JCW Cabrio, but I think for around town, the Cooper S or even the Cooper are the sweet spot.

However, for the traffic light GP, I'd imagine the Electric version is great. There were some very good deals on Affinity yesterday. C£200 per month inc of VAT and with no deposit.

Cooper S hatch is awesome and what I originally went in to order, but when i drove it you do notice the extra weight of the roof mechanics etc. It's like the hatch with a couple of passengers in tow. If yours is the new Clubman then power would be quite up on the cabrio anyway - 230 vs 300+

I’ve had to JCWs previously (including the cab). I just collected my Mini electric and love it - for me, living in central London, it’s even better in town.

Enjoy what you ordered and if you want to switch at some point do - there’s a shortage of used models anyway so you shouldn’t lose much.

Agree on the JCW kit - attached is mine which I think looks great in enigmatic black

Sorry, but no you aren't. Buying anything new and consumer or any sort of car is not environmentally conscious. Personally I have no issues with this at all. But no point BS'ing yourself.

Well no, I don’t live in a wigwam, live off the land and ride a horse to work. So if that makes me someone who isn’t environmentally conscious then so be it.

Like most of the population I balance my impact with debits and credits. Doing what I can whilst still affording the luxuries that make life enjoyable. Conflicted? Yep. That was the whole point of my post.

I think what 300bhp was trying to say, was that buying any new car (electric or petrol) has a greater environmental impact than sticking with what you have. Rampant, unwarranted consumerism has a negative environmental impact which can easily be avoided - along with other practical things (not living in a tent!) just depends how environmentally aware you want to be or appear to be to your neighbours?

I can't take the moral high ground, running around in a 3.0litre petrol, but at least it is 14 years old and owned for six years, so far... smile

But you are kidding yourself, if you think a new battery car is environmentally friendly.....

Couldn’t agree more fella.

Considering we’re on a forum dedicated to pistons, petrol and power, I can’t be the only conflicted morsel who shares a love of cars and countryside smile

Plenty round my way lord it about in Taycan’s and Tesla’s, only too happy to jump on a plane to Dubai every other month.
