Hi All,

Thinking of getting rid of my 420d GC in favour of one of these. Not doing the miles to warrant a diesel, but still want something fairly economical and a bit more fun.

A 2015/6 clubman Cooper S around £11-13k seems to be a sweet spot for me.

Been looking at these as they seem to fit the bill, any must haves or anything to note? Looking for opinions of owners.

Car will be used for general daily duties and the occasional holiday trip etc.

I’m fancying a car with the JCW Chilli pack, as well as the panoramic roof.

Thanks

Alex

I don’t have one (yet) but I’ve got a new JCW Clubman coming later on in the year. The spec on Clubman is pretty good as standard but the larger nav screen is nice. I’m not a fan of the HUD but HK is worth looking out for if you like your tunes. I’d also say adaptive dampers are good to have as is the heated screen - why anybody wouldn’t spec it for £150 I don’t know. The sunroof is nice and bright but I’d check for rattles. There are two blinds and they both rattled horribly in a car I nearly bought last year.

I have a Clubman Cooper SD. I do about 25k miles a year in mine and it’s my car for business and hauling my kids around at weekends.
Have done a few trips away and managed just fine. Interior space and boot space is similar to the Mk7 Golf I had before.
No real issues to report, and has been a really positive ownership experience.
Handles great, goes well, handles well, only criticism would be ride is crashy on poor roads but I think that is mostly down to the run flats. My car is on 18s and I wouldn’t have 19s.
Loads of options and every Mini is different.
I find the standard audio ok and HK option is rare so will limit your car choice of used cars. You can go aftermarket ,( Audison do an upgrade package) if you find it lacking.
Not many cars have the heated windscreen option so again you may have to shop around to get one with that. The screen heater is pretty good and soon clears the screen though.
Just make sure you get the Chilli pack and go 2018 onwards to be sure to get apple car play.
Mini options are confusing so do your research.
The must haves for me were the 8 speed auto, half leather heated seats, led headlights and car play.
I have had bigger cars before including a 320d F30.
I frequent a few owner’s forums and Petrol
s owners often get 40mpg plus on motorway runs so economy isn’t too bad.

As mentioned above, Chilli pack or whatever the equivalent was back then for heated seats and better styling etc.

I would also go 2018 onwards for the CarPlay, it’s a game changer for me and despite not being fussed initially, I couldn’t do without it now!

Ours is 2018 with 26k on the clock, not skipped a beat and never been to Mini once other than for a service.

Did 800 miles to Plymouth and back last year, so 600 motorway and 200 A/B roads and averaged 47mpg

Depends what you want from the car, Mini is certainly more fun the the 4GC. We currently have a 2020 JCW Clubman and 2018 420i GC M Sport, both auto. 4 series is a lot more relaxing and refined with a better auto box, long distance I'd take the 4 every time. Mini is a hot hatch and feels it.

Thanks for the input guys, all very useful comments.

I think i've found the exact car I'm looking for, just waiting on the dealer to send over some more pictures and info.

Recently just sold my XFR and picked up a 17 plate Cooper S clubby to replace a leased fiesta that went back in January.

I’ve been commuting with it for the last couple of weeks and it’s a great wee thing. Nowhere near the performance of the XFR but it’s just fun!

We managed to get one with the JCW chilli pack and the Tech pack. Thunder grey with rear tints, black roof, mirrors and wheels.

I find the HK stereo as adequate and not much better than the basic system from the jag. Heated seats are bloody roasting and heat up extremely quick. Big screen is nice, I use an andriod phone and Bluetooth works fine for music. I do like the HUD and have added the JCW tacho and gear indicator onto it, and as mentioned in a previous post, why do so many not have the heated front screen for £150?!?! I’m missing it as well. The 18s run fine but the run flats are fairly noisy.

I also purchased the bimmercode app and associated cables to make some mods, mainly because the button on the remote is so easy to press by mistake that one of the barn doors has been open when I’ve returned to the car on a few occasions. Solved this by using bimmercode so the boot button doesn’t work until you press the unlock button first. There’s a host of other small tweaks you can do as well.

We bought a Clubman Cooper S Sport (2.0 auto) about 18 months ago, white-silver with black roof, alloys and stripes. Sports/Heated seats are great and pretty comfortable on longer journeys, HK stereo much better than the basic version from our 2017 Mini, pano-sunroof lets plenty of light in and a nice touch in summer. LED headlights are good, again much better than the halogens from our last one which were pretty poor.

In terms of running costs, we average around 38-40mpg, mainly over a twisty B-road commute. 22k miles in and we've just replaced the front tyres for the 2nd time, and the rear's for the 1st time (18" Bridgestone Turanza runflats).

We really like the car, at the moment no plans to swap it but might consider a JCW at some point in the next year or 2 before they get dropped from the lineup.
