which is the best petrol mini engine to get

we have an r56 2009 1.4 mini,
yesterday its started running really rough, so its gone in,



But my question is which mini has the petrol engine with the least amount of aggro?

ever since we got this, ive been checking the oil weekly and listening for the death rattle.
im getting to the point where im fed up of being paranoid but i like the car,
so which is the best engine

B38/48 BMW engine is arguably more reliable compared to the older prince family engines shared with Peugeot and Citroen.

This. The latest F series MINI platform seems to have a much more reliable engine range than the previous R55/56/57 platform. B38 is the 1.2/1.5 litre three cylinder turbo (One, Cooper) and B48 is the 2 litre four cylinder turbo (Cooper S, JCW).
