Looking at buying a 59 or 60 plate R55 Cooper Clubman, low mileage and well specced. But due to current restrictions it would be a click and deliver with 14 day return.
I am trying to find the length of the rear load area with the rear seats folded and front at a reasonable distance for a 6' driver.

Can anyone on here help as all searches just give cubic space not actual dimensions.

Looking at the Clubman as a cheap option to leave parked outside, a dog and golf club carrier and general dogsbody so I can leave my new Macan dog and mud free.

How much of a risk is the timing chain issue? Often you only hear the bad stories on forums

Timing chain not an issue on the Cooper. It afflicts the cooper S.

Thanks Mike, reading up, I thought the engine base was the same, so why the S and not the Cooper. I have seen a couple of Coopers with 60k on saying timing chains have been replaced?

Timing chains do fail on the N16, thermostats leak, waterpumps fail ...check the clutch. Oh and I forgot to go and measure.

I have a 59 plate Cooper S and use it as exactly as you describe. I can get a large cart bag with driver in the length of the rear with the seats down. Also i can fit in a large trolly as well. I need to nip out at lunch so will measure the dimensions.

This is mine with two dog beds in the back. The Clubman has a false boot floor so you can leave it in and have a flat load area, or remove it and have extra space in the boot area.

Dimensions are the following:

Length 47inch - Rear Doors to back of seats
Width 31inch - This is the narrowest part of the rear where the rear seat backs fit into position. It does get a little wider before and after this point
Height 25inch - This is the rear opening space.

Let me know if you need more information.

1250mm from the back of the seat when in my normal position

Mine has the false floor but if you remove everything it’s reasonably deep

No problem. You can also pick up boot liners which cover the majority of the rear with the seats folded. Mini did one, but its no longer available and second-hand ones are rare and expensive.

Just go for something aftermarket for about £50. Also there is a really good Mini R55 FB group thats worth joining if you want to know any more questions.

There's masses more space if you don't need the rear seats - they unbolt easily. Also 6', I completely removed mine to accommodate a large dog cage, luggage for two - and convinced myself I was driving a 2 seater!
