Hi All,

first post, hope this is ok!!

Im planning on parking up one of my minis for a number of years, maybe 8-10 years maybe longer. The other one I won’t park up, this will be my run around and do only approximately 1,000 miles a year only.

I wanted to know what one you would park up and why, I’m hoping the car may appreciate in value, not much but mainly doing it because I like R53’s and they’d be approaching 30 years old and in good condition if done properly. Both cars are in the garage so out of the elements.

Both cars are dark Silver 2003 03 Reg Mini Coopers S’s, both fully serviced with all booklets, all MOT’s and original purchase receipts, so Excellent paperwork.

First car has 83k miles with full service history, was a 1 owner before i purchased it, so original owner had it 18 years. Has black roof/caps and sunroof with Harmon/Kardon speakers, better spec than the other one with cruise control etc.

Second car has done only 50,000 miles again with full service history, 2 previous owners before I purchased it, first owner had it for one year from new then it was sold to the second owner who has had it for the last 17 years, white roof/caps but has less spec than the other one with no sunroof.

So my question is which one would you park up/SORN and would hope to appreciate more bearing in mind the other one will be used occasionally and gain 1,000 miles per year.

Thanks.

Steve.

Spec probably matters less than condition in the long term (and stuff like the sunroof is just something else to go wrong!) - so assuming condition is equal, probably the lower mileage car?

There are so many hundreds of thousands of both around, lots of which are in equally good condition etc that there will not be any appreciable increase in value in that time & on top of that for a car to be parked up for that period of time it will inevitably need work to get back up to scratch again.

Because of the above I would do it differently.

Alternate them each year, as there is no one big reason to chose either over the other.

Sorn by half year or 18 months
Running a winter snotter and using one even infrequently will help keep it good nick compared to being stationary for 15 years

Adding 7.5k or less over time will be incidental compared to having a non runner,
And Ideally buy a facelift as your daily.

Thanks for the replies, appreciate your thoughts.

Lower mileage one will be SORN.
