So this appeared today on our 2016 Mini Cooper. Car seems to be running fine. I expected to find with a quick google but couldn't find a picture of that strip of colours. It says OK, but I can't see how to clear it either? Is this emissions related as the EML light is also on? Not flashing.

Thanks!

That's the engine temperature display, you can scroll through different displays in the instrument cluster by pressing the button on the end of the left hand steering column stalk. If you start the car from cold and watch the display the white line will be displayed at the blue side and gradually move to the centre as the car warms up. This is a standard feature and wouldn't cause your eml fault. Hope that helps smile .

Thank you! It's not my car, it's the other halves so I'm not so familiar. So, just went out, pushed the stalk button which cleared the bar and the EML light. Took it for a spin round the block and was fine. Car was hot after a 25 min run. Is the engine icon just used to denote it's the engine temp rather than it being an EML warning?

The engine icon has a thermometer in it to advise it's the engine temperature that is being displayed. If there is an EML there will not be a thermometer in the icon.

Of course! I went straight into panic mode and didn't see the thermometer. This is (another) case of the other half catching a button and telling me a warning has come up despite "definitely not touching anything"!

Thanks

Thats a pretty stupid idea in my book.
They have taken an Icon, that is historically associated with an engine fault (on most cars if not all), slightly changed it with a thermometer, and used it as an O.K. sign.
Quite rightly the poster has 'seen' a fault.
What exactly is the engine temperature? The oil or the water or the Cylinder head, the block maybe?
Not much thought gone into that, in my opinion.

Sorry my mistake I thought you meant you had a separate eml light to the engine symbol with the temperature gauge. All sorted now though smile

No worries. I see an engine icon and the pound signs start blinding me!

mickyh7 - I would say it, but I do agree. I even went through the handbook and couldn't see that icon combination anywhere.
