Just a quick question , the red warning light for wheel lock has just come on. It’s been checked by local garage who says there is no fault . But the light stays on and needs turning off. He said it may just rectify itself but it hasn’t . Was mentioned I could take it to bmw who have codes to take it off??

If so does anyone know roughly how much this costs ??

Why don't you just phone them? Or take it to a decent independent. Sounds like your garage just doesn't have specific software and it's not surprising really if they're just an average garage with a generic OBD reader.something like ISTA is probably needed.

Given no one replied on your other thread I'd suggest getting it to someone more knowledgeable. There is definitely a REALLY expensive known fault with the steering locks on those though with results in the steering lock sticking on.

The basic fixes are checking the battery voltage and resetting DTCs. You'll need to get that code wiped with a garage that has the right software.

samrcrac had the electronic steering wheel lock mechanism removed and a cheap black box plugged into place to fool the ECU on a MINI or a Beemer

Timmy , or thicko ?? If I may call you that. If you’d read my post I said the local garage had said there was no fault with the steering lock . The light was on but had no reason to be they said. However they didn’t have the right tech to take the light off.

Therefore all I asked was if anyone had had the same issue and how much it costs to get it fixed..I don’t know why you are picking me to be sarcastic with but only you will know that .

Take your help and fk off.

I think his point is, given that your garage don't seem to have the basic equipment needed to turn the light off, it's pretty unlikely they have the right basic equipment to have enabled them to diagnose the fault properly. Warning lights don't come on without something triggering them - something has triggered it.

Given there are known issues with these wheel locks which can have catastrophic consequences, you might want to listen to his advice when he's trying to help you, rather than telling him to fk off.

You read my post completely the wrong way and given I have been the only person to reply to both of your threads trying to offer some help, I think I'll just duck out at this point.
