Ok so I have a2008 Cooper..generation 2 apparently. I’m driving home on country roads from Harrogate yesterday and something had been spilt on the floor as it’s slippy as hell and everyone doing 15 mile a hr.

So I’m thinking that’s a bit weird , had to do a hill start a bit later and the car well it was like driving on ice. I pulled over and checked the tyre pressure which was ok. Then I notice the red power steering light was on. But the actual steering wasn’t stiff and was normal with no weird noises etc .

So am thinking could the slippy roads have somehow tricked the steering light to come on??

It’s strange. And there is no fluid to top up as it’s electric so I’ve been told.

Any ideas at all ???

Can you post a pic of the light, is it red or yellow? Red steering wheel could be the steering lock. IIRC it was a common fault prior to 2008, so I'm hoping it's not that as it's not chap to fix.

If the steering is still fine then it's probably not the electric power steering.

Sorry . You are correct . The local garage looked at it and they said they didn’t have the right code to remove the warning light . Although he did say it could well rectify itself after a few days. I did read somewhere that disconnecting the negative battery lead to try resetting the system ?? Does the make sense ???
