What's the difference? I'm being a bit dim and on the face of it they look rather similar to me?

More importantly on the Clubman boot the doors open out and need a lot of space behind the car and on the Countryman the rear boot door goes upwards does not require much space.

Seen too many Clubmen owners having to pull car out of supermarket space so that they can open the doors of the boot.

I have a Clubman. In two years of ownership, it's never been an issue for me, even if people park quite close. The doors do open out, but the back bumper is quite deep, so at a guess without going out in the rain to check, you need just a bit more than another bumper width behind the car to fully open the doors. I suppose getting boxed in might happen someday though.

Are Clubmans rare? Had a quick look on the PH cars, and only two show up, but Countrymans are everywhere.

I don't think so particularly. I bought mine at about a year old through Autotrader ISTR and there were dozens available, although there was only one in the spec that I wanted, so I ended up with that one.

One thing worth mentioning though is that whilst it looks like a mini estate car, the boot is quite small and you find yourself folding the seats down quite a lot.

I like it though. Mine is a Cooper S with the DCT box. It's quick, and sticks to the road like st to a blanket. Build quality is BMW and better than the car it replaced, a Mercedes C Class.

Think this photo illustrates it quite well. My F54 Clubbie SD on the left, Countryman on the right.

Cool that’s a helpful comparison.
So unless I’m being a total moron, the clubman has more boot space?

I'm very tempted with the latest JCW clubman. Has anyone got one and, if so, how do you find it ?

I think the Countryman, certainly the newer one has more volume but that’s probably due to the increased height rather than the length of the boot area.
All I can tell you is my Clubman is very similar to my previous Golf Mk 7 in terms of boot space , interior passenger space and overall dimensions.

My experience is the same as yours. Never been a problem.

He does! I must admit I’m very tempted to trade in my SD for one next year.
My mileage is less than it was so it makes it a more realistic proposition.

We've had our Clubman Cooper S auto for nearly a year now, and completely agree with this. Great car, so far seems very well put together, handles well, is comfortable for long journeys (especially with the upgraded heated seats). Obviously not quite as quick as my Focus ST, but with the auto box it doesn't feel that much slower. Plus 40+ mpg is easily achievable.

Boot space is hatch-back comparable rather than estate, but does the job for us, and you can tilt the rear seats forward a little more upright to give a "squarer" boot and still have people sit in the back for shorter distances.

If we weren't doing around 20k miles a year we'd have got the JCW, I imagine thats a hoot smile

when we looked at the Mini for Mrs M we weren't sure which so went to the Dealers and looked/drove all 3.

Our (inexpert) comparative opinion of them were;
- Countryman - wider in the cabin than the others, boot same size, no real benefit of putting it on stilts.
- Clubman - looks quirky, boot size the same, not really worth the extra £
- 5 door hatch - pretty well sorted, pretty similar to the other 2, cheaper than them, could still get dog in the boot, handles like it's on rails (not that the Clubman doesn't but the Countryman seemed a bit wobbly when making progress through the twisties)

Result is went for the 5 door hatch Cooper S, a year later still think it's a great fun car to drive but on long motorway trips we'll take the 10 year ofd Merc with 115,000 miles on the clock as I feel the Mini is a bit noisy and too choppy for motorway cruising.

Not driven the Clubman, but we had a new Countryman for 6months and it’s really practical. Boot space is good, feels good in the cabin for comfort and space.

The Cooper S is quick, and handles even in the mini SUV version. We have the older Clubman, and I’d love to upgrade to the newer one.
