Hey guys,

Hope you are well.

So i have a 2003 mini cooper in chilli red which a bought a few months ago. I knew it had a issue with the clear coat on the roof and thought i could live with it but its started to bug me.

I think it was originally red and and its been paint white and badly by the looks of it . From the middle to back all of the clear coat has come off and its starting to come away on the front to.

The car was cheap because of other issues which i have mostly fixed my self but i guess to get it repainted will cost more than i paid for the car. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to cheaply fix it or at least get it looking better?

Any help and advise would be grateful.

Thanks

Warren

Depending on how handy you are and how much time you have you could do a reasonable at home spray job of that.

As a bare minimum if it's really starting to bug you I'd be giving it a light sand to take all of the clear coat off and then just applying a new coat (or two) of clear.

Remember with painting prep and cleanliness is everything - many a guide on YouTube.

Edit: Although the mark at the front of the roof might be within the white paint so might need heavier sanding and some coats of white applied.

One other option aside from professional / home painting is to get a wrap on the roof.

You may need to still sand it flat first for a perfect finish with the wrap :-

https://www.mini-graphics.co.uk/store/mini-roof-gr... (not too pricey, but budget for a pro-fit).

Or google 'Mini roof decals' - lots of options and official ones too.

Thanks for the replies, yes was think to maybe have a go my self. Never done any spraying before but might be worth a go.

On the graphics, I had seen them but was concerned that even if I sanded all the clear off that a graphic would not stick to it without the clear coat.

Thanks

I don't think you will get a finish that you can live with via a rattle can. Make sure to prep well first so you have the best chance.

I think if you just flat around all the edges of the rough lacquer and go for a roof decal it may be the best bet other than a proper spray up.

I bought an 2006 R53 Cooper S in BEP recently. White roof with a pano sunroof. I've removed the white stripes and replaced the chrome scoop with a BEP scoop. Spraying a set of mirror backs BEP to replace the white. Only the white roof now offends! So roof - wrapping in black? Got a quote to have it wrapped black of £240 inc. Reckon with a bit of ringing around can get that down to below £200 and still get a quality job. Thought I'd chuck this in as a rough 'how much' in case you haven't checked wrapping out yet.
