Mini Cooper S Project Car!

Hi, I have just turned 18 and I’m looking at a Mini Cooper s, the reason for this thread is because I am not sure what to choose between, I have found a mini on autotrader which is £1000 however it does state that it has problems, I’ve always had an interest in cars but have no mechanical knowledge, apart from changing an air filter on a corsa. Could anyone let me know how difficult it is to work on these cars or if it would be easier buying on which is perfectly working, cheers Jacob

There is VERY little space under the bonnet on these, but having said that they are no more easy/difficult than any other car with a relatively large engine in a relatively small engine bay.

Don't forget that any issues are added to by the fact that the engine is either supercharged or turbo charged depending which one it is & that will also add to complexity.

In a nut shell I wouldn't recommend one with issues to someone not fully competent, especially if it is for sale as the owner WILL have looked into it in the hope of keeping it but has clearly decided it is either beyond his capabilities or wallet or both.

Okay thanks, the buyer did state it was for a project car but claims he has no time, but it’s probably easier to gain experience another way, thanks anyway
