Super knocking cylinder 3 fault code - 2008 Mini R56 FJCW
Discussion
So, out and about in the Mini this week and looking at the digital screen I suddenly see a yellow/orange half colour in engine fault image appear. Car was running absolutely fine and pulling cleanly. O/H consults manual and reads that the car is OK to drive, just not with too heavy a foot!
Took it down to local, trusted Inde at lunchtime to read the fault codes and shows:
1.2D52 DME: Super knocking
2.2DCD DME: Fuel shutoff due to superknocking, cyl 3
3.2885 DME: Boost-pressure control deviation, plausibility
Car background: low mileage (44k) FJCW bought from Mini dealer - had a problem 2 years ago where MINI replaced piston rings, changed cam chain & tensioner and completely rebuilt the head with new parts - the PARTS bill alone was c. £3.5k! Thankfully all done under warranty. At the time I asked about walnut blasting, but was told the valves were clean enough, so didn't warrant it. Since that work was done 2 years ago the car has only covered c. 9k miles and oil/filter changed annually, and is always driven carefully from cold etc so it is looked after.
So the big question is any idea what this could be? I wondered if it could a coil pack on cylinder 3 that is on the way out?
Any thoughts or advice most welcome! Oh, and if it does require walnut blasting, can you recommend any companies close to Newbury, Berks please? Thanks!

Hi There,
Did you ever get to the bottom of this issue ?
I have the same problem. Superknock code on cylinder 3. had it diagnosed on BMW diag equipment to be high pressure fuel pump, so changed with genuine & put in new plugs, problem still there. Changed the coil pack on cylinder 3 and no change. Was walnut blasted before I bought it and only done 6k since. Chain is quiet and was not thought to be an issue by BMW specialist. I don't have any dashboard warning lights. It starts first time and idles smoothly and did this even before fuel pump was changed.
My next thoughts are to get my injectors sonically cleaned but beyond that have no logical way to go. It seems more fuel related that electrical to me, the hesitation is like someone momentarily pulled the handbrake slightly, not the sort of stuttering hesitation you get with an electrical system issue like plugs or coils etc. be interested to see if you got your issues sorted and what the source of the problem turned out to be.
