I have a Mini Cooper S, 2018 with the TLC pack. The alert came up for the 1st service. The ‘boing’ was a little annoying so we reset the alert before taking the car in to Mini today for its first service. Our dealers have said that we will have to pay for the service because we reset the service on the dash! I’ve yet to collect the car, but cannot find any terms and conditions anywhere that state this. I will be challenging this when I go and get the car later, but wanted to see if I could find any information first.
Many thanks

Just playing devil's advocate here, not arguing.

Surely if you reset the "service indicator" the car doesn't think it needs a service, so it COULD be seen as not being part of the service but an additional requirement by the owner.

Based on this, in the first instance, it could be correct but I think you are obviously right to challenge it.

That is a nonsense refuse to pay and take it up with the service manager then the dealer principal then mini. It probably was a idiot on the service desk there’s a lot of them about!

Mmmm. Yes, that is a possibility. I’m sure they will find an angle to make me pay.
Thanks for you reply.

The bong couldn't of gone on for that long as you got 1 month or 1000 miles to get the service done?

also mini will not service it before it is due on the service indicator, as that is deemed not due a service, and you would have to pay.

keep us informed on what's goes on!

As said above how are Mini to know that the car is due if the indicator is reset?

The service was due on its 2 year age. Thankfully no issue on collecting the car, they decided not to charge us! However, I must say the attitude wasn’t pleasant, nor was the aftersales when we had a breaking noise issue. So much so it has put me off ever buying a mini or bmw again from a main dealer.
I’ve had 2 Mazda MX-5’s and never had any issues or bad attitude when buying or servicing.
Thanks for everyone’s comments / assistance.

Just to try and show from the dealers perspective;
The dealer has to claim the service costs back from MINi uk, they prove it needs the service by what the key reader states- If you reset it then they lose the ability to claim it back.
They can then recorrect the data on the diagnostic machine which is what I guess they did - but it is extra work and time for the technician that only gets 15 minutes to do the whole service.

Seems a silly idea to reset the service indicator before the service anyway
