Cooper SD - Warm Rattle!
Discussion
Been deliberating about posting this for a while, given that it's virtually impossible to diagnose noises without hearing them!
However.....car is a 2013 Cooper SD, full dealer history, clutch replaced couple of years back. I've owned it for a year.
Weird thing is, it ticks over fine when started cold. When it's been driven for a while, and the engine is hot, the tick over becomes quite loud and, well, rattly. Bit like someone shaking tin cans! This stops as soon as you apply some throttle - even standing still - it only does it when stationary and warm with no accelerator pressure.
I've read elsewhere about the BMW diesels being loud - there aren't any error codes showing up, either.
Just hoping that anyone may have, or have heard about anything similar. It's done it since I've had it!

I had a bloody annoying rattle/tapping on my SD a few months ago. Turned out to be nothing more than a plastic terminal cover on the battery touching the bulkhead. It only appeared whilst at idle & disappeared as soon as there was any throttle. I had visions of serious engine work or pulling the dash apart to trace the offending irritation.
