Mini experts! Help!
We just got this lovely car as yet another addition to the already too-crowded collection simply as we loved the looks and the price of it.
The car has done shed loads of miles but has had literally thousands spent lately on things like sports exhaust, upgraded wheels, shocks and brakes. The 21% supercharger pulley modification has been done along with a re-map and is running around 220 bhp now. (1320 Mini did all the work).
One issue i have is that the car never stops searching for a lower gear, it constantly wants to change down and just quickly reverses any attempt by me via the paddles to get a higher gear. Even on the motorway, the car even in cruise control changes down unless i am doing over 80 mph. It will not hold 55 or 66 in top gear.
Is this just the high state of tune telling the gearbox it needs to get the revs up? In town the car runs all the time in low gears, this is without selecting sport mode, it's just in drive.
Secondly is the backfiring on the overrun normal with these cars, or is that again because of the state of tune?

They all pop and bang on over-run, standard cars, no map. For many it is one of their joys!! That and the SC whine. I have an 2005 R53.

I have a friend with an auto, also quite heavily tweaked like yours, and he has had this hunting between grears issue. I'm not sure whether or how he has sorted it - I can ask him.
He and I are on a very handy, well run and very active Facebook closed group called the R53 Owners Club (R53OC).
One of the founders of the group also runs a heavily modified auto.
Autos are, as I'm sure you know, quite rare.
The R53OC has 8,466 members as at today, just checked. It is very focussed, they are pretty strict about it only being members with an R53 S ...... or people with R52 S convertibles.
I am on MINI2, MiniTorque and this New MINI traditional website based forums. I used to use them all the time. Unfotunately perhaps in some folks opinion, it seems that the FB groups that are marque/model based are rather taking over from traditional forums. So now I rarely visit the three I mention above. PH is an exception as it provides such an otherwise rich range of offerings.
If you are not on it, I recommend it highly. Here is a link:

Thanks, i will do a transmission oil change, as it has done so many miles. Will try and find what grade to use and how much. Do you know?
I am guessing 3 changes will be needed to effectively get nearly new oil?
