Hi all,
Having a bit of an issue with my 2016 Mini Cooper S Convertible.
I purchased from Mini dealer 2nd hand and noticed after 5 months when the weather became cold a really load noise under my bonnet appeared when I went over speed humps.
I went to mini service department twice for this reason, but they could not find an issue or hear the noise.
I'm truly worried as I have a guarantee which expires in May and want to resolve this asap.
Please let me know if anyone has experienced this or even better know what this could be.
Look forward to hearing from someone who can relate to this..

You need to give us more information, is it engine related, does it change with speed, does it only do it in a certain gear or does it feel like something is clunking and banging underneath.

Body creak. I had it on mine around the n/s a-pillar. Really hard to reproduce, and it took 3 visits to sort mine. It’s a weird noise.

It’s sorted with waxoyl.

Hi there,

Thank you so much for a response.

The noise is a loud clunk under the bonnet and above my pedals. Creaking I get all the time which I'm used to but the clunk sounds like something is loose. The dealers checked the suspension and more and they where not able to see anything.

It's so stressful as I don't want the car to get worse and worse..

I think its doing the same as our F57, you can feel it through the floor but not the steering wheel. every so often it bangs so much you feel something is going to drop off. It does it the most when going over speed bumps or if you are twisting the chassis.

We think its the lower rear engine mount with too much play in the bush and it allows the engine and gearbox too move which smacks on the bracket. Mini have revised the mount (new part number) and our local dealer were changing quite a few. You can see the marks it leaves behind. I have the bits in the garage to do the job but haven't as of yet, i'll get it done in March when its serviced.

From what you describe it pretty much has to be either an engine mount or something major/structural on the suspension & that should be pretty easy to find, so take it somewhere else as the place you have been so far obviously can't be bothered to check it properly.

That's so helpful.. Thank you so much.. I will present this too them and see if they can fix this. But strangely enough while I'm typing a new noise has appeared when I change gears it's like a knocking sound now.. they done the full service a few weeks ago so wondering if its linked to that !?

I tell you it's stressful to hear all these noises for a car I've only had for 8 months..

I doubt the knock will be linked to the service but could very well be linked to the rear mount.
