Did a dumb thing today, and tossed my jeans into the washing machine, with my R56 key fob still in the pocket, done a full cycle before I realised.
Are they waterproof, to withstand such muppetry? ... dried it on the rad, and unlock and locking the doors still work, just wondering if I've done some damage.

Well just to close this out
Yes they are, fob works fine, yet to to see if the wash powder has caused any long term issues, but short term, didn't harm it.

I mean, you’d hope they would be. The problem tends to be that the board inside will be corroding where the moisture has go it ... I suspect it will eventually fail, let’s hope not too soon!

Not really relevant but my dad's MK2 Laguna key card went through the wash numerous times over the fifteen years he owned the car. It was still working just fine when he finally sold it and bought a new car.

While we're on the topic (I couldn't find a definitive answer on other boards), are these sealed rechargable batteries that charge via the cars slot? I'm finding the range on mine pretty awful and wondered if there's a way to replace the battery? Google vids suggests you have to break it open and solder stuff.

Yes they charge when slotted into the dash socket, always rotated mine every 6 months to keep them charged, I've heard people have changed the internal battery, but do think its a bit of a faff to do so.

I've changed the battery in my fob twice (R58). I've had to do it as keyless entry and non-recahargable battery (fob is not put in the slot). It's very simple to open the fob that I have with your fingernail.
