Hi again
Few months into my wifes' ownership of a 67 plate Cooper Convertible and she loves it.
It has no spare wheel just the can of goo and a compressor. Never been very convinced by this offering and looking to buy a spare wheel, identical to the ones on the car and store it in the garage. A problem and I can pop out with it.
The present wheels are the 17" propeller wheel with 205/45/17 Dunlops
Not sure if I'd stick with Dunlop when time comes to replace the current tyres. Don't know why just fickle!
On our other cars we tend to use Michelin Crossclimates (we live west coat Scotland so while little snow, it gets frosty/icy in winter and we get a share of rain all year).
What do every one else use please, I'm intending to buy one new tyre for the spare and then replace the others as time comes. Wondering Uniroyal Rainsprouts 3 but understand they are quite soft sidewalls. Just go Cross Climates??

for your spare which hopefully you will never use just get a wheel and tyre from a scrappy. Doesn't matter if it matches.
Anymore than that you are wasting your money, nice if you can afford to.

This is what I've done with my Cooper S.

I've only had two punctures in 30 years that have left me stranded so gambling that the tyre could be inflated at the roadside to get home or use the gunk.

I have a spare wheel/tyre in the garage if required as it takes up a fair bit of the boot hehe

Sadly there's not many scrappies around our way, most of the junk is still on the road.....

Picked up a decent matching wheel for £60 inc the postage, if I get a decent tyre to match the new ones that we'll ultimately need I can rotate them. (Isn't that what wheels do any way:-) ).

Agree, I can't remember the last puncture I've had but the roads around here are a bit rough at times. Of course any puncture she gets will be 200 miles from home.....

This all started when a work colleague got a puncture that the goo wouldn't fix. It was a few days before the tyre place could get a matching replacement which stopped her getting to work etc.

And if we've got a spare then we'll never need it but if we haven't got one.......

So what tyres do others recommend on a 67 plate Cooper being used in all conditions; what works best on these cars?

TIA

If you can get Michelin Cross Climates in your size, then these would be my recommendation. I have these on my XC60.

Yes, as above we have Cross Climates on my old Volvo Estate and on the Suzuki SX4 that m wife had prior to the Mini. The Mini is somewhat different, a lot lighter and smaller, wondered if they'd suit the car.
