Hi All,
I have a F56 2014 Cooper S, it’s stage 1 remapped to 260bhp. Have done a few other bits to to it not that it matters.

When I had the car remapped they suggested it would be a good idea to change the large lower engine mount to a powerflex, so I agreed not really knowing what advantages it would have. After the work was done I got in the car and it vibrating so hard on idle that the parcel shelf was physically moving. I’ve lived with it for about 2000 miles now and I just can’t get used to it, it’s got better on the move and doesn’t vibrate on idle, however when pulling away from a standstill as the clutch engages the vibrations are unbearable. So much so that you have to slip the clutch to make for a smooth launch. Recently the clutch has started juddering a little, so I’ve decided to change it back to the stock mount to prolong the life of the clutch (it’s already on 79,000 Miles).

My question is, what is the point of the uprated engine mount? Can’t see how it would help performance/handling so why bother? I do track day once a year. Don’t really push the car too hard apart from that. Wouldn’t mind the vibrations but it’s my only car and I do about 60 miles a day.

Thanks,

kurokawa

Have not change anything on my Mini, but once put a black series on my E36 when the factory mount worn away.
I was told that the stiffer powerflex mount will absorb less engine vibration, and hence less power lose, the draw back are terrible vibration on idle and certain RPM range.

I've had Powerflex (purple) sub frame bushes fitted to my R58 and I did ask in advance if they would cause any detrimental vibration/harness - luckily they have not. They were recommended as the standard OEM rubber items wear. The car feels nice and solid and together.

I would not put up with the symptoms you describe on a road car - maybe if it was track only, but it sounds like it has spoiled your enjoyment of the car so get it reversed or it will make you hate driving it altogether.

Thanks guys, £20 later and I’m back running the stock engine mount. So much better. Doesn’t feel as violently fast when you floor it, but is so much more comfortable and smooth.

Which Powerflex material was the bush?
I'm running the yellow and I don't have anything like the NVH you're describing.

Perhaps yours was the black (significantly firmer) variery?
