We have the above car, 17 plate so I think that is the B47 engine, and it is running rough every now and then and also putting on the engine warning light which resets if you turn the car on and off. At first I thought maybe a dodgy batch of fuel so ran that through but didn’t fix it, next port of call is changing the MAP sensor before I have to get it in to a garage.

Does anyone know where it is on the intake? Looking up parts the car doesn’t have a MAF type, just the MAP one (pressure measuring). Just had a good luck and can find nowhere that the part is. This is the part, no Haynes manual yet for the car and my google skills have failed me.

TIA.

So is there a reason why you are changing it or is it just a random parts cannon firing?

Don't waste money fitting parts it might not need, get it booked in. It could be an air leak, EGR valve, pressure sensor, its unlikely to be a MAP sensor. I'm guessing yours might be a B47, if it was the N47 then you can add timing chain issues to the list. Was yours one of models affected by the EGR recall ?

It’s a 17 plate, not sure on recall - will have a look. Read up on B47 and one recommendation was to change that as easy and not too expensive (measures pressure as per your ideas).

Just checked - not in the recall note so not EGR. As per first question, does anyone have a diagram of where the MAP sensor is? *

Just changing stuff is not how you find a fault, yes you could be lucky but as there are many things that can cause identical problems it is not recommended.

BTW, if you are ever looking for anything realoem.com is the root of all knowledge on anything bmw/mini.

Just navigate through the drop downs to your car & it is all there with drawings, parts lists, prices (American) and pictures even.

Fantastic, thanks. I was just intending on trying that before getting it in - appreciate could be wasting my time but I like to fix stuff and had read that as a potential problem cause. If the fault comes on again I'll get it to a garage with a code reader.

Buy yourself a code reader before wasting money on the sensor, it will be something to do with the emissions control side.

Got the code reader, one sensor fault and EGR stuck open. Then had a moment of clarity and realised it was still within 3 year warranty (got mixed up between the 12 months used car warranty not realising it was still under the original 3 year one) and MINI came out yesterday and fixed it on the drive! Bonus.

Ah, so it was the EGR, its fairly common on BM/Minis

Yep, the tech said he assumed that from the description on how it was driving - the sensor is not very important is it is only data logging and nothing to do with engine management so that remains unfixed till it goes in for its next service. Only thing still to do is take it to Mini for a software update which cycles the EGR open/closed 5 times when the engine is turned off to lower the chances of it sticking again.
